According to UC Davis about 30% of the California harvest is exported to Japan, Europe and Canada.

California produces asparagus about 9 months out of the year. It is harvested every 2-3 days during the cooler part of the season and then everyday during the hotter days. Asparagus is hand cut at an angle just below the surface when it is about 10 inches long.
